River Rd. died of complications at 9 a.m. Friday in Mercy Hospital after being hospitalized 18 days. He had been ill since March and in the hospital several times.
Born in Jackson County, Ky., April 2, 1869, he was the son of James and Sallie Robinson Bales. He attended public schools of Bond, Ky., and was graduated from Sue Bennett College, London, Ky.
He was married to Betty Johnson, McKee, Ky., who preceded him in death and then married Mrs. Addie Rose who also preceded him in death. On Jan. 9, 1947, he was married to Mrs. Margaret Sampson who survives.
In his earlier years Mr. Bales was in the coal business, In later years he became a building contractor and retired last year when he moved into his new home on E. River Rd. Prior to that time he had resided on Franklin St. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church on Hunt Ave., and had resided in Hamilton for 43 years.
Mr. Bales leaves the widow, Mrs. Margaret Bales; two sons, Grant Bales and Chester Bales, of Hamilton; a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Stout, of Fredericksburg, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Rena Scott, Livingston, Ky.; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He also leaves many friends. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Miss Sarah Bales and Mrs. Bessie Hunt.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday from the David Webb and Sons Funeral Home, Ross Ave. and S. D St., with burial in Millville Cemetery, Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Monday.
