From legacy.com: Pioletti, John F. Oct. 3, 1925 - Oct. 11, 2011 US Army Special Forces Command Sergeant Major (CSM) (Retired) John F. Pioletti, 86, of Sarasota died Oct. 11, 2011. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Nov. 25, 2011 at Sarasota National Cemetery. Toale Brothers Funeral Homes, Gulf Gate Chapel, is handling the arrangements. He proudly served over 31 years in the patriotic service of his country. His military service began in WW II as a paratrooper in the Pacific Theater and culminated with duty in charge of all Green Beret enlisted personnel in 10th Group, whose mission and capabilities are among the most complex in the world. His decorations include the Legion of Merit, multiple Vietnamese Gallantry Crosses, Purple Heart, and the Bronze Star for Valor (BSV). He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. After proudly serving his country in times of war and peace, CSM Pioletti and his family eventually settled in Pinckneyville, Ill. where he pursued his passion for horses, bird dogs, and hunting. He instilled a strong sense of patriotism and the value of friendships where ever he went. His children are all veterans. He is preceded in death by Mary, his loving wife of 54 years and survived by two daughters: Terri (Curt) Taylor of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Susie (Charly) Shugg of Sarasota, Fla.; a son, John (Betsy) of Redondo Beach, Calif.; and grandchildren, Matthew, Evan , Richard, Jonathan, and Justin. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
