America Amanda Kirkpatrick

America, the fourth child of Jesse and Minerva Kirkpatrick, was born 2 February 1842 and died 26 March 1920 in Quincy, Illinois. She is buried at the New Providence Cemetery north of Ursa, Adams County, Illinois. On 1 may 1862, in Quincy, Illinois, she married Thomas Henry Tibbitts, who was born 9 November 1836 in Ohio, and died 2 May 1882 at Lima, Adams County, Illinois. He was a cooper. They were living in Lima, Illinois in 1880.
America enjoyed writing as a pastime from an early age. Several of her writing have survived, including a journal written during her teens, and several poems which related the times she lived in. A copy of the eulogy she wrote for her sister Sarah Caroline can be found in Sarah's entry.
There were six children born of the marriage.

Bowen, Ill., March 27---Mrs. America Tibbetts, an aged lady of Bowen, passed quietly away at her home Friday morning at 10 o'clock, March 26, aged 86 years, 1 month and 24 days. She was the daughter of Milton and Minerva Kirkpatrick of Ursa, where she grew to womanhood and was married May 2, 1862, to T. H. Tibbetts. Six daughters were born to this union, Jennie, Sophia, Mable, Katie and Albina, four of these daughters died in girlhood and her husband died in 1882. Mrs. Tibbetts lived all her married life in Lima, until about six years ago when she moved to Bowen with her two daughters, Miss Mable, and Mrs. Jennie Van Blair, who have been constantly with their mother. The past two years she has been in failing health with hardening of the arteries. She was a loving mother and always kind to everyone and bore her sufferings patiently till the end. She was a member of the M. E. church and always a faithful worker at her former home. Mrs. Tibbetts leaves to mourn her loss two daughters, Miss Mable and Mrs. Jennie Van Blair and one grandson, C. T. Van Blair of 632 Jersey street, Quincy, and several nieces and nephews with the host of friends. Funeral services will be held Sunday morning at 10 o'clock at the M. E. church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. H. Davis. Burial at Ursa Sunday afternoon.
