Bob was an Eagle Scout and a graduate of Crystal City High School. He enrolled at Texas A&M in the summer of 1944, immediately following his graduation from high school. Following his military service, he resumed his studies, and graduated from Texas A&M University with the class of 1948 as a Corps of Cadets member of the Fighting Texas Aggie Band. He then began his career with Del Monte Foods, starting as a spinach taster in the sampling room in Crystal City, Texas, and retired 35 years later as the President of Del Monte International, and Group Vice President in San Francisco, California. During his career, he and Betty traveled the world extensively and made their homes in Texas, New Jersey, Utah, Mexico, and California. Bob's passions included turkey hunting, recruiting for A & M, spending time with family at the Ranchito on the Nueces River, and mentoring people of all ages.
Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dr. Sterling H. Fly, Jr., Mr. Fly is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Rascoe Fly; four children, Candy Fly Smith, Robert F. Fly, Jr. (Diana), Steve Fly (Jane), and Sid Fly (Marcella); eleven grandchildren, Allegra Currie, Kate Fly, Lindsey Fly Thomas (Matt), Molly Fly Woodchick (Andrew), Ross Fly, Chuck Fly, Mitchell Fly, Beth Fly, Lauren Fly, Robert Fly, and Sydney Fly; two great Grandchildren, Garner Lambert and Carter Thomas; sister, Patricia Fly Kelly (Patrick); and sister in law, Mrs. Sterling (Bobbie) Fly.
