Individual Details
Clarence Baer
(Jul 1866 - 28 May 1929)
Conceals Poison Vial. Taken to the county jail, he was subjected to the usual search but apparently had concealed the small vial of poison in the lining of his clothing, as officers failed to find it. When the guards went through the jail early this morning occupants of adjoining cells told of hearing Baer's groans. On opening the door they found Baer dead on his cot.
Dead Two Hours. Dr. E. T. Ridgeway, coroner's physician was summoned and stated that the victim had been dead two hours. The vial containing the poison could not be located. E. T. Best, Lake Geneva, county corner, after hearing Dr. Ridgeway's report, stated that no inquest would be necessary. Baer had formerly operated a farm near Delavan and was said to have been wealthy until he recently met financial reverses. He was a widower and is survived by a daughter residing in West Allis.
