Isaac Rathburn Baer

(9 Mar 1832 - 9 Oct 1904)

Waukesha Freeman, Oct 13, 1904: One by one the reaper, death, swings his mighty scythe and removes from among us our old and beloved citizens. Last week it- was Jacob Holtz, and this week the grim destroyer takes from among us so quickly that we scarcely realize the loss, Mr. Isaac Baer. Mr. Baer was stricken with paralysis Friday night and Sunday morning he was lying cold in death. He was injured some time ago in a runaway accident and has been forced to walk with a crutch ever since. Mr. Baer was born at Waterloo, New York, 1830, and at twenty-nine years of age he wedded Mary Closson [Clason], who survives him. He served in the Civil war from 1862 to 1863. After the war he came here and has lived here ever, since. When he first came here he started what is now the Menomonee hotel, later he established a store, which was conducted with success. He is survived by a wife and eight sons and daughters, all being married. His remains were laid at rest in the Sunny Side cemetery after the services on Wednesday afternoon.
