Cecil Eugene Yeary

Lexington Herald-Leader, Lexington, Kentucky, Saturday, September 21, 1985: Cecil Eugene Yeary, one of Laurel County's most prominent residents, died Thursday at Laurel Heights Home for the Elderly in London after a year's illness. He was 73. Yeary and his wife, Daisy Engle Yeary, had operated London Insurance Agency, a general insurance business, from after World War II until about 10 years ago. Yeary was a former president of Kentucky Independent Insurance Agents. He also was a director and vice president of First National Bank of London at the time of his death. For many years, he was instrumental in bringing industries to Laurel County. "He was one of the finest gentlemen I've ever known in every way," said retired London grocer Dyche Jones, a longtime friend. "He was easygoing and he was kind and he was considerate." Yeary, who lived on West Fifth Street in London, was chairman of the old London-Laurel County Development Association, which was instrumental in bringing Caron Spinning Co. and other industries to the area. "He worked day and night to get Caron Spinning Company here in London . . . and a lot of people appreciated him for it," said First National Bank director E.C. Binder. "He was just always active and always into anything going that he was needed for," Binder said. Yeary also had been a deacon and treasurer of First Baptist Church in London. And he was a trustee of Clear Creek Baptist School in Pineville and Oneida Baptist Institute in Clay County. He was active in raising funds for Marymount Hospital in London and the London-Corbin Airport. At the time of his death, he was the chairman of Laurel Heights Home for the Elderly. Yeary was honored at the 1984 Laurel County Homecoming for his contributions to the growth of the county. He was a charter member of the London Chamber of Commerce, a Mason and a member of the London Kiwanis Club. Yeary was a graduate of Middlesboro High School, where he played football. He served in the Army during World War II. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother, Noble C. Yeary; and a sister, Berneda Gallagher, both of Corbin.Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in London. Visitation will be after 6:30 p.m. today at Bowling Funeral Home in London.
