The Hutchinson News, Hutchinson, Kansas, Sunday, August 14, 2005: Great Bend---Dr. David G. Shivel, 77, died Aug. 10, 2005, at his home, Great Bend. He was born Feb. 1, 1928, at Coffeyville, the son of Paul Brown and Dorothy Esther Stegal Shivel. He graduated from the University of Kansas Medical School. A resident of Great Bend, he was a medical doctor. He belonged to Kappa SIG, American Medical Association and the American Legion Post No. 180. He served in the U.S. Navy. On Aug. 20, 1950, he married Patricia Shivel. Survivors include: a brother, Paul Nelson, Lawrence; and a sister, H. Joan Bachman, Greeley, Colo. He was preceded in death by his wife. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 24, 2005, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Diana Coberly presiding. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at Charter Funerals, Great Bend. A private family entombment will be in Great Bend City Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorials may be sent to the Great Bend Senior Center or the Great Bend Humane Society, both in care of the funeral home.
