Washington Democrat Independent, Washington, Iowa, June 13, 1935, Front Page, Col. 3: Mrs. Milton H. Sweet Is Taken. Widow of Old Time Sheriff Died Saturday Evening at Home Here. Mrs. Milton H. Sweet, 78 years old, widow of one of the old-time sheriffs of Washington county, died at six o'clock Saturday evening at her home, 750 East second street. She had been seriously ill for only a week, pneumonia being the cause of her death. As recently as two weeks ago she was able to go to Brighton to attend the funeral of a relative, Baxter Ingham. Adell Kirkpatrick was born Dec. 26, 1857, at Glasgow, Iowa. She lated lived at Brighton and was married May 1, 1907 to Milton H. Sweet at Fairfield. They came to Washington and her home had been ever since at the residence on East Second street. Mr. Sweet died Feb. 7, 1917.
She was a member of the Methodist church of Washington and had been much interested in the church and a regular attendant at its services when her health permitted. She leaves a niece, Mrs. Cecil Mortimore of Brighton and seven nephews, Guy Kirkpatrick of Pasadena, Calif., Cecil Voorhies of Flint, Mich., Carl Voorhies of Carrollton, Ill., Keith Voorhies of Hibbing, Minn., and Ray, Max and Roger Voorhies of St. Louis. Funeral services held at 2:00 Tuesday afternoon at Sherman's funeral home, in charge of Dr. F. C. Witzigman of the Methodist church, with burial in Hillcrest cemetery at Brighton.
