Charles Merrill Fulkerson

Memorial services or Charles M. Fulkerson, late principal of the Ukiah high school were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Ukiah Presbyterian church, with Rev. E. H. Benson, retired, officiating. Inurnment was at the Chapel of the Chimes, Santa Rosa. Mr. Fulkerson passed away in his office at the high school Friday morning while in conversation with Harold Lawrence and Don Musser, two members of the school faculty.
A resident of this county during the greater part of the past 36 years, and principal of the high school of this city continuously for 26 years, Mr. Fulkerson held an enviable place in the esteem of all the people and among members of the teaching profession throughout the state. Coming to Ukiah in 1912, Mr. Fulkerson taught in the city schools for three years, then was principal of the Point Arena high school from 1915 to 1918. He returned to the Ukiah high school in 1921 as principal. A graduate of Berea College at Berea, Kentucky, Mr. Fulkerson received his M.A. degree from Stanford University.
He was a member of Ukiah Rotary Club and had served as secretary for more than 15 years. Of his service to that organization, the Rotary Bulletin issued after his death paid him the following tribute: "His unswerving devotion to his duties, whether as secretary, principal or any other pursuit, was the conspicuous trait of his character. There has never been a citizen of Ukiah with a more outstanding reputation for integrity, honesty and probity of conduct."
Mr. Fulkerson is survived by his wife, Mrs. Grace Fulkerson, and two sons, Dr. Ronald Fulkerson of Oakland and Attorney Harold Fulkerson of San Francisco.
