Lexington Herald-Leader, Lexington, Kentucky, Friday, February 4, 2005: Engle, William Robert (Billy Bob), 93, passed away Wed., Jan. 26, 2005 in Fort Myers Beach, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Nellie May Engle and his wife of 66 years, Mary Edith Bach Engle. Mr. Engle was a member of Central Christian Church, Oleika Temple where he belonged to the Royal Order of Jesters, the Kentucky Civil War Round Table, the Lexington Country Club, Royal Palm Yacht Club in Fort Myers, and the Lexington Yacht Club, of which he was a charter member. He was a graduate of the Tennessee Military Institute in Sweetwater, TN and the University of Kentucky. He was in the United States Navy, where he was a flight instructor during WWII. He remained in the Naval Reserves until retirement. He founded Engle Construction Company in 1939. Among his many adventures Billy Bob's favorites were navigating the Pacific Ocean from California to Hawaii on a 35 foot sailboat, and a month long sojourn with his family up the Mississippi, Ohio, and Kentucky rivers on a Chinese Junk. He is survived by three daughters, Mary Gail Engle (Chuck Wilson), Nancy Engle Gordon (Mark), Robin Gornto (Mack); four grandchildren, Peter D'Enbeau, George Birk, Malia Birk, and Jasen Gornto; and two great grandchildren, Pierson D'Enbeau and Stella Birk. He is also survived by his brother, Harold Engle (Cleo).
