Funeral services for Mrs. Ann Simer, 34, of 3825 Kingston, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James Dace, minister of the Unitarian Church of Corpus Christi, burial will be in Seaside Memorial Park. Mrs. Simer who was a women's news reporter for the Caller-Times, died from cancer yesterday morning in a local hospital. She was a favorite of many Corpus Christi readers who shared with her through her columns in the The Times the joys and frustrations of raising four children. Her husband, John, who is a criminal justice coordinator for the Coastal Bend Council of Governments also was mentioned frequently in the column. She began the column in September after her doctor advised her to cut down on her activities. She had been hospitalized several times previously but returned to work each time shortly after she was released from the hospital. She had worked this week until Thursday before her doctor took her by ambulance from his office to the hospital. She died at 1 a.m. A native of Brooklyn, N. Y., Mrs. Simer moved to Corpus Christi, when she was 10 and attended Miller High School, Del Mar College and University of Texas. Mrs. Simer was a television news reporter for KHI-TV Channel 3 before joining the Caller-Times in 1968. She worked as a reporter and on The Times copy desk and started work in the Women's news department a year later. She has received numerous awards since then, including a second place prize from the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors in 1970. She was recognized by the same group recently for a story on seafood served in local restaurants.
