Posted at findagrave.com: Cedar Rapids Evening Gazette, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jan. 28, 1901: Mrs. Johanna Flaherty died at the home of her son, Patrick Flaherty, 521 South First street west, at 6 o'clock Sunday morning, aged 98 years. Mrs. Flaherty was born in Ireland and came to this country with her husband in 1849 and settled in Illinois, where they remained for five years. In 1854 they moved to Iowa and settled in Fairfax township where they have since resided. Mrs. Flaherty was the mother of eight children, five of whom are living. They are Patrick, Michael and Mrs. Thomas McDonald of this city, Mrs. Maurice Cahill of Fairfax and Mrs. Ellen Hunter of Bertram. She was an earnest Christian and faithful member in the church, where she will be missed by a wide circle of friends. Last spring she moved to this city with her son Patrick, where she lived until the time of her death. Funeral services will be held at St. Patrick's church Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. Father Sullivan officiating. The interment will be at Fairfax cemetery and the remains placed beside those of her husband who died in 1867.
