Alton Franklin Vicars

Harlan Daily Enterprise, Harlan, Kentucky, Tuesday, January 3, 1978, Page 8, Col. 1 & 2: Alton F. Vicars, 62, Rio Vista, died Monday at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice, Rio Vista; and four children, Alton Jr., Middleboro; Bill, Athens, Tenn.; Linda, Nashville, Tenn.; and Douglas, Corbin. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and a sister, Eula Ellis, Pineville. A member of the Harlan United Methodist Church, he was employed for many years by Cumberland Music Co. and later by Caylor Music Center. He was a veteran of World War II, and a member of Harlan Lodge No. 879 F and AM. He was past secretary and treasurer and past counsellor of Harlan Council 790 United Commercial Travelers,; served six years on the grand executive committee and was past grand-counsellor, UCT for the states of Kentucky, West Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. He was a native of Pineville and had lived here 45 years. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Harlan United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Pineville Community Cemetery with the Rev. J. M. Burton and the Rev. John D. Lambert and the Rev. Bill Melsoni officiating. The family will receive friends after 6 pp.m. today in the chapel of Mount Pleasant Mortuary. Pallbearers are the Rev. Bill Melsoni, Claude White, Jack Skidmore, Jack Mabelttel, J. B. Edwards, R. G. Harris, J. R. Robinette and Richard Browning. Members of the Harlan Men's Bible Class of the Harlan United Methodist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
