Willie Buttry

Dexter Daily Statesman, Dexter, Missouri, Tuesday, December 4, 2001: Willie Buttry, son of the late Edd and Rosa Summers Buttry, was born on Jan. 26, 1912 near Greenbriar in Bollinger County and died Dec. 2, 2001, at the age of 89. Mr. Buttry attended the schools in the rural Greenbriar area. He operated many businesses in the Puxico area from 1946 to 1965 and served on the Puxico City Council. He moved to the Poplar Bluff area in 1965, where he continued to operate Buttry Construction Company until his retirement in 1974. He developed Lake Road Subdivision in the early 70's, east of Poplar Bluff and he returned to the Puxico area in 1996. He was well respected by all of his associates. On May 18, 1940 he was united in marriage to Bessie F. Holloway. To this union, two sons were born. Bessie preceded him in death on Jan. 7, 1996. He then married Edith Turnipseed in Nov. 1997, she survives. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Larry Buttry and Nancy of Poplar Bluff and Kenneth Buttry and Carol of Platteville, Wis.; by three grandsons, Alan of Poplar Bluff, Stephen of Plano, Texas and Keith of DeForest, Wis.; by two granddaughters, Kimberly of Independence, Mo. and Karyn of Platteville, Wis.; by seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also mourn his passing. Besides his parents and wife, Bessie, he was preceded in death by seven brothers, two sisters, and a grandson, Kurtis. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. at the Morgan-Sifford Funeral Home in Puxico. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5 in the Morgan-Sifford Funeral Chapel with Rev. Wiley McGhee and Rev. John Buttry officiating. Interment will follow in the Brown Cemetery north of Puxico with Morgan-Sifford Funeral Home of Puxico in charge of all arrangements.
