Daily American Republic, Poplar Bluff, Missouri, November 28, 1959, Page 2, Col. 4: Joseph McGowen of Fisk Died This Morning. Joseph H. McGowen, 78 year old resident of Fisk, died at the Poplar Bluff Hospital at 5:30 this morning following a two day illness attributed to the infirmities of age. He was born in Stoddard County November 7, 1881 and resided in Stoddard County for many years before moving to Fisk. He and the former Pearl Hamm were married in Poplar Bluff February 22, 1903. She died a few years ago. He was a member of the Hobbs Chapel Methodist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Orpha Cochran and Mrs. Juanita Johnson of Fisk and Mrs. Dulsa Warbington of Royal Oak, Michigan; three sons, Clois of Emmit, Cal., Alvin of Shreveport, La., and Norman McGowen of Mt. Pelier, Ohio; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The body was taken to the White Funeral Home at Fisk and funeral plans were incomplete today.
