Register Star, Rockford, Illinois, Monday, August 22, 1997, Page 2, Col. 1, Paragraph 6: Doris Thingvold, 53, of Stillman Valley and Cassandra White, 21, of Byron died in a head-on collision on Illinois 2 north of Byron at 10 a.m. Thursday. Four others in Thingvold's van, including two children,, were injured. The fatal collision on Illinois 2 occurred about two miles north of Byron, near Kennedy Hill Road. Thingvold was extricated from the wreckage by the Byron Fire Department and was flown by Lifeline Helicopter to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center where she died. The driver of a third vehicle involved, Kristen Simpson, 27, of Lanark, was treat at Rockford Memorial Hospital and released. [Cassandra] White was pronouned dead at the scene. Ogle County sheriff's deputies said White was south bound on Illinois 2 and crossed the centerline, colliding with the Thingvold's northbound van, which was then struck by Simpson's vehicle. Thingvold's granddaughter, Leah Bush, 4, of Byron, was in critical condition later at Rockford Memorial Hospital. Her brother, Adams, 5, was treated and released. Jessica Woolcomb, 21, Thingvold's daughter, was in serious condition with fractures to both legs. Her husband, Ronald Woolcomb, 21, was treated and released. The Woolcombs recently moved back to Stillman Valley from Ontario, Canada.

Thingvold, 53, of Stillman Valley, died Thursday August 21, 1997, as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident. Born Feb. 15, 1944, in Canalou, Mo., the daughter of William and Audrey McFadden Higdon. Married Robert Thingvold on Feb. 27, 1960, in Rockford. She was employed as a health unit clerk at Rockford Memorial Hospital. Attended Rockford schools. Member of Kishwaukee Community Presbyterian Church. Survivors include husband, Robert; son, Brian Thingvold for Rockford; four daughters, Glenda (Kevin) McCarthy of Broomfield, Colo., Wanda (William) Bush and Jennie (Aaron) Weaver, all of Byron, and Jessica (Ronald) Woollcornbe of Stillman Valley; five grandchildren, Leah and Adam Bush and Christopher, Jeffrey and Shawn Weaver, all of Byron; brother, James (Aurelia) Higdon of Rockford; sister, Sandra LeFever of Davis Junction; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents. Services at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, in Kishwaukee Community Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Trevor H.G. Smith, officiating. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Rockford. Visitation 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, in Farrell-Holland-Gabe Funeral Home, 136 W. Roosevelt Road, Stillman Valley. Memorial fund established.
