The Spokesman-Review, Spokane, Washington, Sunday, June 20, 2010: Briscoe, Mona. Mona entered into rest on June 18, 2010 at Hospice House in Spokane, WA. Mona was born to Jesse Neal and Martha Mae Clason on April 21, 1930 in Springview, Nebraska. Her family later relocated to Spokane where she attended Lewis & Clark High School and Spokane Trade School. While attending high school she worked at the Rialto theater where she met Elmer Dempsey and to whom she later married and raised five children with. Mona was an exceptional homemaker and above all, a devoted mother who loved her children dearly. She was honored as the Inland Empire Mother of the Year in 1965 after being nominated by her foster daughter, Diana and her son, Greg. She was a volunteer at St. Joseph's Children's Home and would also bring children home from Hutton Settlement for the holidays. She was also very active as a room mother in her children's classrooms. Her loving and tender heart knew no bounds. Mona loved to garden, dance, bake, sew and crochet; winning an Interstate Fair Blue Ribbon for one of her beautiful blankets and being asked by many to bake and decorate their wedding cakes. Mona's smile was an extraordinarily infectious one, loved and appreciated by all who crossed her path. A smile that she blessed us with right up until the end. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Chester Clason, brother Marion Clason, sister Mary Brown, brother Jimmie Clason and husband William Briscoe. She is survived by son Douglas Dempsey, daughter Pamela (David) McKay, son Gregory (Roxann) Dempsey, daughter Janet Fry, son Michael Dempsey (Jessica); brothers Frances Clason and Neal Clason; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A very special thank you to those staff at Sunshine Gardens who so lovingly cared for her. God Bless You Mom. We find comfort and peace in knowing that you are dancing with the angels. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Spokane Cremation & Burial Service, 2832 N. Ruby St., 324-9375.
