Chester Clifford Clason

Amarillo Globe-News, Amarillo, Texas, March 15, 2007: Chester C. Clason, 75, of Amarillo died Saturday, March 10, 2007. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St., with Bishop Patrick Mullin of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officiating. Full military honors will be by Altus Air Force Base. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery Field of Valor. Mr. Clason was born in Wewela, S.D. He moved to Amarillo in 1976. Mr. Clason served in the U.S. Air Force from 1949 to 1971. He served during the Korean and Vietnam wars and was stationed in Thailand for two years. He retired in 1971 as senior master sergeant. After his retirement from the Air Force he lived in Honolulu. He received a bachelor's degree in general accounting from Chaminade University. He received a master's degree in accounting from West Texas State in 1982. Mr. Clason taught business accounting at ATI. He worked as an accounts manager for the Bureau of Mines and for several cattle and feedlot firms from Colorado to Texas. He had also worked as an accounts audit manager for several banks in Amarillo and was a special education instructor at Caprock High School. Mr. Clason was a kind and compassionate man who dearly loved his family and friends. He would provide assistance to anyone who needed help and would never ask for anything in return. It would put a smile on his face when someone would indulge him in a game of cribbage or dominoes of which you could never win! Mr. Clason was admired and respected for his knowledge, wisdom and values. He will truly be missed. Mr. Clason married Yvonne Audrey Nakila on Dec. 1, 1952, in Honolulu. She preceded him in death in 2004. Survivors include a son, Richard Clason and wife Tanya of Panhandle; a daughter, Karen Evenson and husband Duane of Amarillo; two brothers, Frank Clason and wife Pat of Pampa and Eugene Clason of Spokane, Wash.; two sisters, Mary Belle Brown and Mona Briscoe, both of Spokane; three grandchildren, Russell Clason, Ryan Clason and Neely Kelley, all of Amarillo; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
