Basye---At Hurley, S.D., Monday, April 11, 1892, at 10:30 p.m., Nathaniel Montgomery Basye, aged 69 yrs and 9 mos. Mr. Basye was born in Pike Co., Missouri, in 1822, moved to Grant Co., Wis., in 1835, from whence he came to Dakota in 1871, settling in Yankton. In 1872 he moved to Turner county, taking a claim in what is now Childstown township, where he remained until 1877., when he went to Sioux Falls, remaining there one year and then returning to this county and settling on a farm near Swan Lake, where his wife---whose maiden name was Elisabeth Kirkpatrick and to whom he was married in 1842---died in 1883. For the past eight years he has made his home in Hurley, living a greater portion of the time with his daughter, Mrs. M. E. Layne. Mr. Bayse was a member of the M. E. church, and an active and earnest worker in the Master's vineyard, and was of that disposition that he made friends of all with whom he came in contact, either in a social or business way. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. M. E. Layne and a son, A. A. Bayse and a large number of friends to mourn his departure.
