Otis Madrane Bateman

He was born in Waverly, Ohio. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Danbury. He was a 41-year employee of the New York Central Railroad, retiring in November 1922. He was a member of the Brotherhood and Maintenance of Way Employee Local Lodge No. 1264 and a joint board member of the Ohio Division of New York Central from 1946 to 1966. He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Biddle) Bateman; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Dorothy) Straub, Merritt Island, Fla.; and Mrs. Donna Bartholomew, Redford, Mich.; one son, John Bateman, Lima; 13 grandchildren; and one brother, George Bateman, Mesa, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy (Whaley) Bateman, in 1975; one son, Robert in 1984; his parents, Edward and Ida (Emerick) Bateman; two brothers, Everett and John; and one sister Dorothy. Friends may call 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Larry Baldridge, First Baptist Church, Sandusky, and the Rev. Raymond Biddle officiating. Burial will be in Sackett cemetery, Marblehead. Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice Service, 122 W. Madison St., Sandusky; or to Cancer Services of Erie County, 912 Perry St., Sandusky.
