Times-Standard, Eureka, California, Thursday, September 26, 2002: Paula Mae Brauner (Ford), born September 16, 1933, went to be with the Lord on September 21, 2002 in Crescent City at the age of 69. Mom was a native of Eureka and a resident of Crescent City. She was a descendent of Humboldt pioneers, Lucin and Luch Wright, who came to Humboldt County in 1859 and settled in the Mattole Valley after traveling across the plains with wagon trains from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Mom was a devoted Christian and a member of St. Bernard's Church. She graduated from Eureka High with the class of 1952. For many years she worked at the convalescent homes caring for the elderly with whom she had a special place in her heart. Mom was a very talented seamstress, making wedding dresses, prom dresses, and formal wear for family and friends. She was also an accomplished crocheter, making baby blankets for all the new arriving grandchildren and making many family gifts with her talents. She is survived by Everett Ford and their children, Dale and wife Dena Ford of Crescent City, Cathy and husband Jamie Gutierrez, Darrell Ford, Delora Kahoalii, Craig and wife Kim Ford, all of Eureka; Paul and Barbie Ford of Fortuna; grandchildren, Julia and Hector Tejeda, John and Jennifer Crosswhite, Paul and Julie Crosswhite of Eureka, Tasha, Kathleen, Joseph, Heather and Jessica Kahoalii of Eureka, Lori and Erin Ford of Fortuna, Samatha Ford of Rio Dell, Justin, Spencer and Kip Ford of Fortuna, Jimmy and Candia Garcia of Crescent City, Cathy and Steve Romero of Salem, Oregon, Diana and Wayne Arrison of Lodi, Debbie Garcia of Lodi, Nathan Blaketer and Amanda Lightford of Eureka, and Mellisa and Tim Stephens of Fortuna. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Logan Crosswhite, Hunter Crosswhite, Alexandria Tejeda, Christopher Arrison, Hannah Arrison, Aaron Arrison, Sophia Romero, Antonia Romero, Apolonia Romero, Augustina Romero, and Heather and Christian Stephens. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Lucille Brauner; grandparents Wilbur and Rosa Duff; Aunt Elaine Kirkpatrick; and son-in-law, John Crosswhite. A Vigil Service will be held at Pierce Chapel, 707 H Street, Eureka, on Wednesday, September 25, 2002, at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bernard's Church, 6th and H Streets, Eureka, on Thursday, September 26, 2002, at 1:30 p.m with Fr. Daniel Kassis, Celebrant. Entombment will follow at Ocean View Cemetery, Eureka, with casket bearers being John Crosswhite II, Paul Crosswhite, Hector Tejeda, Justin Ford, Tim Ford and Randy Ford. Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Mortuary Chapels/Pierce Chapel, Eureka, where friends may visit on Wednesday, September 25, 2002 from 1 to 5 p.m.
