The first child of five born to Thomas C. and Mary J. (Taylor) Kirkpatrick, born about 1852 in Davis County, Iowa. In 1866, Mary moved to Chalmers Township, near Macomb, McDonough County, Illinois. Mary on 30 September 1879, married J.O. Witherspoon. In 1912, Mary was living in Missouri.
