Mrs. Margaret Armstrong, a long-time and highly respected resident of Oshkosh, passed away early this morning at Milwaukee, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Anthony Van Pietersom. Mrs. Armstrong resided for years with her daughter, Mrs. W. H. Hathaway, Jackson drive. But some weeks ago, Mrs. Hathaway having been forced to go to the Mayo hospital at Rochester, Minn., for treatment, her mother went to Milwaukee to spend the interim. Mrs. Hathaway, who is still at Mayo's has been notified of her mother's decease and will leave Rochester for Milwaukee, this evening.
Mrs. Armstrong's remains will be brought to Oshkosh. The funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic church, Thursday morning at 10 o'clock. Mrs. Armstrong was born at the city of Montreal, Can., Jan. 3, 1845. After a period of residence at Buffalo, she came to Oshkosh in 1872 and this city has been her home since. The deceased was married twice. Her first husband was a pioneer Oshkosh merchant, Philip Besnah. Years after his death, she married W. C. Armstrong, veteran of the civil war and prominent in Grand Army circles. Mr. Armstrong died some years ago. Mrs. Armstrong is survived by Mrs. Hathaway of this city, Mrs. Van Pietersom of Milwaukee, Charles Besnah of Milwaukee and George Besnah of Appleton. Mrs. Armstrong had been in frail health for some time, but there had been no indication that dissolution was near. This announcement, therefore, will bring shock and sadness to her many friends here.
