Electa Lucinda McDermitt
(7 Oct 1860 - 8 May 1922)
A number of sorrowing relatives and friends gathered at the late residence, No. 522 State street, at tow o'clock and at the Marion street church on Thursday afternoon at two-thirty o'clock to render their final tributes of respect to the late Mrs. E. L. Pendarvis, well known matron of the fifth ward.
The services were in charge of the Rev. Peter I. King, pastor of the church, who gave a message of solace to those in sorrow. The music was furnished by Mesdames John Shelley and James Nutt who sand "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere,"Going Down the Valley," and "He Knows It All."
The floral offerings were profuse and beautiful. The flowers were in charge of Mrs. Frank Williams, Miss Harlene Williams and Misses Marie Eamer and Erma Debner. The pallbearers were Messrs. Jesse White, Clark Chandler, Andrew Johnson, William Rose, Ben Holmes and Charles Humphreys. Interment was made in Rosehill cemetery.
Her Life Sketch.
Electa Lucinda McDermitt, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James McDermitt, was born in Henderson county, Illinois, October 7, 1860.She died at her home, No 522 State street, on May 8, 1922.
The early part of her life was spent in the place of her birth. She came to Boone county in October, 1884. On April 16, 1885, she was united in marriage to Elza L. Pendarvis and to this union were born seven children, viz: Glenn and Mrs. Clair Smith of Montana, and Howard, Cleo, Fred and Emma of Boone. Another son, Raymond, died in infancy.
Mrs. Pendarvis was an active church worker throughout her life and for the past few years had been identified with the Marion street Methodist Episcopal church where she was ever ready and willing to work for the cause of the Kingdom.
Besides her husband and children she is survived by 14 grand children and two sisters, Mrs. John Killealea of Kewanee, Ill., and Mrs. A. H. Brewer of Adams, Iowa. Many other relatives and friends in this city sincerely mourn her passing.
Among those from out of the city who were present at the services were the following: Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Enfield, Mr. and Mrs. John Pendarvis, James and Shirley Wingfield, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wingfield, all of Ogden; Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Brewer, and Mrs. John Baldridge of Adana, Iowa; and Mrs. Catherine Wingfield.
