Iowa City, Ia., Nov. 14.---Prof. C. S. Magowan, of the engineering department of the University of Iowa, one of the best known and most popular members of the faculty, died early this morning at his home in this city. He had been connected with the school for over twenty years, and the greater part of the time held a responsible position in the engineering college. He was also city engineer of Iowa City for many years. Professor Magowan became ill with lung trouble over a year ago, and since that time has been in very poor health. On the application of friends he was recently granted a temporary disability allowance of $1,500 by the Carnegie foundations, a fund for the assistance of worthy teachers. Professor Magowan had a wide acquaintance over the state, and his death has caused general sorrow.
