Printed in the Times Post, Houston, Mississippi dated October 13, 1993: Mrs. Betty Mae Ward, age 85, of the Una Community, died Monday, October 4, 1993 at Dugan Memorial Home in West Point. Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 7 at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel in West Point. Burial was in Palo Alto Cemetery with the Rev. Raymond Rooney officiating. A native of the Montpelier Community, she was a former telephone operator for Southern Bell Telephone Company and a former nurse's aide at Ivy Memorial Hospital for 15 years. She was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in the Una Community and was the widow of the late James Howard Ward, who passed away Mar. 1, 1978. She was also preceded in death by a son, the late William E "Bud" Ward. Survivors include two daughters, Mary W Turner of Manito, IL and Sue W Jackson of Prairie; one son, James H Ward, Jr. of West Point; nine grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Jimmie Deck of Trussville, AL, Mrs. Annie Laura Bailey of Anniston, AL and Mrs. Bessie Lou Taylor of Ocean Springs. Pallbearers were Donnie Turner, Glenn Ward, Kenny Ward, Joey Jackson, Johnny Jackson, Homer Duke, Tommy Mayfield and Buddy Sizemore. Honorary pallbearers were her friends in the Una Community, Staff of Dugan Memorial Home, friends and former employees of Ivy Memorial Hospital and Dr. T N Braddock. Calvert Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
