Madison Wisconsin State Journal, Madison, Wisconsin, Monday, February 15, 1943, Page 5, Col. 2: Platteville---Mrs. Dorothy Frances Smiley,86, died at a Platteville hospital Saturday after a long illness. She was born near Arthur and had lived her entire life in this vicinity. Survivors include three step-children, Albert and henry Smiley, Milwaukee, and Will Smiley, Chicago; two nephews, Ernest Sheers, Chicago, and Ben Jones, Kenosha, and three nieces, Mrs. Russell Davidson, Mrs. Alvin Curtis, and Mrs. Charles Loveland, all of Platteville. Funeral services were to be held at 2 p.m. today at the Riter-Haudenshield funeral home. The Rev. Robert F. Merritt, pastor of the Spring Green Congregational church and a former pastor in Platteville, was to officiate. Burial was to be in Greenwood. [A photo of Mrs. Smiley is with the obituary].
