Oness Layton

Daily American Republic, Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Tuesday, March 15, 1977, Page 13, Col. 4: Neelyville--Oness Layton Sr., 69, Star Route, a retired security guard, died of an apparent heart attack at 10:20 a.m. Monday in Doctors Hospital. A resident of Butler County for the past two years, Mr. Layton was born Sept. 23, 1907 in Neelyville. On March 9, 1950, he married Zella Evans in Jerseyville, Ill. Mr. Layton was of the Baptist faith and was formerly of Hopkinsville, Ky., and South Roxana, Ill. He is survived by five sons, Oness Layton, Jr. of Neelyville, Joseph Layton, U. S. Army, Germany, Mark Layton, U. S. Army, Hopkinsville, Ky., and Harry Layton and Charles Layton of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Vera Snyder of Hopkinsville, Ky., and Penny Layton of the home; two stepdaughters, Judy Hays and Clara Smith of Warden, Ill; four brothers, Wesley Layton of Mt. View, Ules Layton of Brosley, Hoyce Layton of Patterson and Willard Layton of Arnold; one sister, Mrs. Bessie St. Cin of Neelyville; and 11 grandchildren. Visitation begins at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Parrent Funeral Chapel in Naylor. The funeral will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday in Marks Mortuary Chapel in Wood River, Ill.
