Thomas W. Haslam, 74, a retired postal employee, died unexpectedly Friday (Aug. 6, 1999) at his home in Kenmore. He was born in Buffalo and graduated from Burgard Vocational High School after studying aviation mechanics. Haslam joined the Army Air Forces in 1944 and was a B-24 bomber pilot during World War II. He earned the rank of major in the 914th Airlift Wing at Niagara Falls Air Reserve Base. He joined the Reserves in the early 1950s and retired from military service in 1980. In 1950 he began working for the U.S. Post Office as a part-time driver in the Seneca Street garage. He worked his way to manager of fleet operations at the William Street main post office, retiring in 1980. He had been a member of the Church of the Advent since 1958, served on the vestry and was elected several times as warden. He was serving as financial secretary at the time of his death. His first wife, the former Gloria Crosier, died in 1995. Survivors include his second wife, the former Caren C. Zimmerman; two sons, Dennis M. of the Town of Tonawanda and Thomas J. of Houston; and a daughter, Pamela A. of Costa Mesa, Calif.
