Mary Bell Cooksey

Sherman Herald Democrat, Dec. 13, 2005: Mary Bell Cooksey Bellows. Ector's oldest citizen, Mary Bell Cooksey Bellows, 100 years young, passed away peacefully at her home, Saturday night, December 10, 2005. She was born July 12, 1905, north of Ector to James Madison (Mac) and Minnie Mae Ramey Cooksey. She married Robert H. Bellows, October 7, 1922 at the age of 17. He preceded her in death December 2, 1972. Mary Bell had overcome several major health problems. She loved to crochet, garden and tend to her chickens. Mary Bell was a loving mother of eight children. Two sons preceded her in death, Roy in May 2000 and Herman in March 2003. She is survived by sons, Hezzie and wife, Jean Bellows of Handley, Texas, Joe and wife, Nancy Bellows of Ector, Texas, Ray and wife, Jannie Bellows of Bonham, Texas; daughters, Marietta Snow of Del City, Okla., Fannie Shackelford of Bonham, Texas, Vera Ruth and husband, Ernest Hill of Ector, Texas; two daughters-in-law, Geneva Bellows of Midwest, Okla., Bonnie Bellows of North Richland Hills, Texas; sister, Vera Burchfield of North Little Rock, Ark.; four sisters-in-law, Iverna Wilson of Savoy, Mary Lee Bellows of Sherman, Marie Johnson and Hester Bellows of Ector, Texas and Leona Teel, caregiver of Ector, Texas. She has 25 grandchildren, 57 great-great-grandchildren, 28 great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by sons-in-law, David Snow and Charles Shackelford; and brother-in-law, Luther Burchfield. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Mullican-Little Funeral Home Chapel with Wayne Johnson of the Ector Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at the Carson Cemetery, north of Ector, under the direction of Mullican-Little Funeral Home.
