William Jennings Bryan Cross

On the 1930 U. S. Census of Topeka, Shawnee Co., Kansas, Bryan W. Cross appears with his wife Pauline and daughter Lorrene E. Bryan was 21 when he married and Pauline was 20. All three were born in Kansas. Bryan is a salesman for a biscuit company.

Obituary from Kansas City Star, October 21, 1977, page 31: William B. Cross of 8409 Mastin, Overland park, co-owner of a hotel chain in Kansas and Missouri during the 1930's and 1940's, died Wednesday at Shawnee Mission Hospital. He was 77 years old. Mr. Cross was co-owner of the Cross-Beck hotel chain, which operated hotels in Kansas City including the Sexton and Bray hotels and the Plaza Hotel, which stood at the location of Crown Center. The company also operated hotels in Springfield, Mo., Hutchinson and Great Bend, Kan. Mr. Cross was a member of the Saddle and Sirloin Club and the 611 Club of the Kansas City Club. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, Olathe. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Lorene C. Piper, Scottsdale, Ariz.; a sister, Mrs. Ida Holman, Chula Vista, Calif., and three grandsons. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Newcomer Overland Park Chapel; burial in Mount Moriah Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at the chapel. The family requests no flowers and suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society. Pallbearers: Jerry R. Piper, William C. Piper, Donald H. Piper, Louis Segebrecht, Dr. Bruce Hodges, George Hagan and Dean Logan.
