Obituary from the Wichita Eagle (Morning), 8 July 1942: Dr. G. O. Shoemaker is Taken by Death at home in Wichita. Well known Osteopathic Physician Dies Tuesday of Heart Attack. Here Since a Boy. Dr. George Oscar Shoemaker, 69, widely known Wichitan and a resident of Sedgewick county since a boy, died Wednesday of a heart attack at 6.30 p.m. Tuesday at his home at 418 East Fourteenth. He had been downtown to his office in the Fourth National bank as late as Monday. Doctor Shoemaker was born February 27, 1873 in Franklin county, near Columbus, Ohio. He cam to Kansas with his parents Samuel N. and Leah Shoemaker, as a child and the family settled near Haysville. He received his early education at Garfield university and taught school for several years in Sedgwick county as a young man. He later attend3ed the Kirkville School of Osteopathy at Kirkville, Mo., returning to Wichita to take up his practice. His diploma was signed by Dr. A. T. Still, founder of Osteopathy. At the time of his death he had practiced osteopathy in Wichita over a longer period than any other osteopath in this section. Was Married in 1907. He was married to Mrs. Susan Kirkpatrick at Wichita on October 30, 1907, Mrs. Shoemaker who survives , is a daughter of the late Judge W. F. "Tiger Bill" Campbell, for many years one of Wichita's best known attorneys and Civil war veteran. He also leaves two sons; Leroy E. Kirkpatrick and Lieut. George O. Shoemaker, Jr., on foreign military service, four daughters, Mrs. Roscoe Simmons, 240 Secora Drive, Mrs. E.J. LeBlanc, 1712 West Douglas, Mrs. Harold K. Thurston, 236 South Glendale, and Mrs. J. Omer Dressen at the home, three sisters, Mrs. Addie Bone, Los Angeles, Mrs. Bert Wells, route 5, Wichita, and Mrs. Emma Rogers, Kansas City, three brothers, John Shoemaker, route 6, Wichita, Jacob C. Shoemaker, Des Moines, Iowa, and William H. Shoemaker, Kansas City, and six grandchildren. Mr. Shoemaker was a member of the Christian church and attended services at the Hillside Christian church. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Gill mortuary.
