Hutchinson News, Hutchinson, Kansas, Sept. 25, 2004: NEWTON - Gary L. Kirkpatrick Sr., 61, died Sept. 21, 2004, at Newton Medical Center, Newton. He was born Oct. 25, 1942, at Newton, the son of John and Ruby Weigand Kirkpatrick. A resident of Newton, he had worked for the railroad as a diesel electrician for many years. He was past commander of Veteran of Foreign Wars No. 971 and was a member of the American Legion, both at Newton. On March 26, 1967, he married Betty Dilbeck at Newton. She survives. Other survivors include: two sons, Gary Jr., Newton, and Richard, Milton, Fla.; a daughter, Leasa Kirkpatrick, Wichita; a brother, Ronald, Florence; a sister, Evelyn Sidener, Burns; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John J. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Petersen Funeral Home, Newton, with Pastor Steve Baird presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, with the family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Newton, with full military honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Memorials may be sent to Veteran of Foreign Wars of Newton or to the Newton High School Wrestling Athletics Fund, both in care of the funeral home, 215 North Main, Newton, KS 67114.
