Blanche Shufelberger

(13 Nov 1876 - 2 Jan 1947)

Obituary of Blanche Shufelberger Kirkpatrick from the Bucklin Banner, Bucklin, Kansas, Thursday, January 16, 1947: Blanche Shufelberger daughter of Christian P. and Mary M. Shufelberger, was born November 13, 1876 at Uniontown, Iowa and departed from this life January 2, 1947 at the age of 70 years, 1 month and 30 days. When she was a year old her parents moved to a farm near Goddard, Kansas, and here she grew to womanhood. On March 22, 1896 she was united in marriage to James H. Kirkpatrick. Her husband preceded her in death July 7, 1941. To this union two children were born: a daughter, Esther, who passed away at the age of 13 and a son, Alva Glenn, a resident of this community. Mr. and Mrs. Kirkpatrick lived on farm near Goddard Kansas until 1910 when they came to Bucklin where they lived on a farm. Since 1922 5they have made their home in Bucklin where Mrs. Kirkpatrick was an active member of the Farm Bureau and various church activities. Their home was always a place of welcome to everyone who came to the door. Mrs. Kirkpatrick was a devoted Chistian wife and mother, as well as a neighbor. She was loved and respected by her many friends. She leaves to mourn her loss: her son, Glenn and daughter-in-law, Jessie, three grandsons, Kenneth, Warren and Keith, her sisters and brothers: Mrs. Grace Madden of San Antonio, Texas; Mrs. May Moore of Kingman, Kansas; Maurice Shufelberger of Dodge City; Archie Shufelberger of Newton; Lloyd Shufelberger of Haven; and Floyd Shufelberger of Haviland; and a brother-in-law, Will, and his wife of Bucklin; also a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends. To know here was to love her. The following poem was found among her possessions: When I Am Old by Lynnford Shockley. I wonder if they'll love me when I'm old, and when perhaps to them I'll be a care; I wonder if they'll leave me much alone, and little of their joy and gladness share. I pray the Lord that ere that time may come, There's just one wish that He will grant to me; To fill my life so full of hope and faith and love That though I'm much alone, I'll never lonely be. To those who stop in passing by my door, May I extend some little word of cheer, And point them to a loving God above That they in faith may to His throne draw near. And when my life on earth is fully run, And all my earthly cares are at an end, I'll clasp close to my heart the memory Of each of whom I've been, and who has been to me, a friend.
