Reese, 80, of 1812 Hedges, Independence, a retired teacher from the Kansas City School District, died Wednesday at Baptist Memorial Hospital. He was born in Howell County, Missouri, and lived in this area 60 years. He taught civics and American history for 45 years at the McCune Home, Westport, Central Junior and Northeast high schools before retiring in 1964. Mr. Reese graduated from Pittsburg State Teachers College, Pittsburg, Kan., now Kansas State College at Pittsburg in 1919. Mr. Reese was a member and a deacon 40 years of the Maywood Baptist Church. He also taught Sunday school there 40 years until his death. He directed area Baptist church choirs 30 years.
He leaves four sons, Bud Reese, Raytown, Trevor Reese, Warrensburg, Mo.; Evan Reese, 607 Linwood Ter., Independence, and Gordon Reese, Quito, Ecuador; four daughters, Mrs. Vesta Belle Hutsell and Mrs. Gwen Hutsell, both of Seattle, and Mrs. Donna Addison, 2517 Hawthorne, and Mrs. Janis Peters, 2612 Overton Circle, both of Independence, 23 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Hinton Chapel, Raytown, with burial in Mount Washington Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Ivor E. Reese memorial fund at the church.
