On the 1900 U. S. Census of Florence Township, Benton Co., Iowa, Patrick Harrington appears with his wife Alice and son, Andrew J. Also in the household are 2 boarders. Patrick is a farmer. He states he came to the U. S. A. in 1851 from Ireland. Alice states she came to America from Ireland in 1855. Patrick and Alice have been married 40 years. Alice is the mother of 9, with 6 currently living.

Patrick's tombstone states he was born in Kings County, Ireland. Several Public Member Trees at Ancestry.com show he was born in Offaly County, Ireland. Kings County is now known as Offaly County.

Cedar Rapids Evening Gazette, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Tuesday, July 15, 1902, Page 3, Col. 3: Patrick Harrington, an old resident of the county, who was born in Ireland in 1826, died at this home near Norway yesterday. The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning from the Catholic church in Norway. Rev. Father Horell officiating. He is survived by his wife and two sons, James and Andrew*.

Cedar Rapids Weekly Gazette, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Wednesday, July 23, 1902, Page 8, Col. 4: Sudden Death of A Pioneer. The Norway Signal, July 17, says: Last Monday morning the people of this city and surrounding country were cast into a state of profound sorrow by the sudden and unexpected announcement that Patrick Harrington, one of Benton county's most esteemed citizens, was dead. He attended church in this city Sunday as had been his custom for years, being a devout member of St. Michael's church, and apparently was enjoying the best of health. Early Monday morning he said to his wife that he felt weak and started to get up being in bed, at the time, but was unable to do so, and fell back upon the bed, and upon investigation it was found that he death messenger had summoned him to his eternal home.

He was a robust and healthy man, having experienced but little sickness during his long life of seventy-six years. The cause of his death was apoplexy.

The deceased was born in Kings county, Ireland, May 12, 1826. Coming to American in 1852, he located in New York where he remained for more than a year. From that state he came to Iowa, and in the spring of 1865 commenced farming in Florence township, Benton county, where he lived until the time of his death, July 14, 1902. In 1860 he was married to Miss Alice Fox, who, together with four sons and two daughters*, remain to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father.

The deceased was one of the most successful and enterprising farms in Benton county, and it can be sais of him that his dealings with his fellow men wee based upon the principles of honest and square dealing. Those who knew him honored him as a man for his sterling qualities of charters that are preeminently necessary to the successful development and up of any community. His numerous friends in his own and adjoining counties are particularly those in this city, extend their most profound sympathy to those who were so unexpectedly called upon to suffer an irreparable loss.

The funeral cortege left the residence, south of town, at 9 o'clock and proceeded to st. Michael's church in this city, where solemn high mass was said for the departed by Rev. Dean Gunn, of Cedar Rapids, assisted by Rev. Father Lamenchmann and Rev. Father Hogan of Fairfax. The burial took place in the Catholic cemetery north of the city, and the long line of carriages filled with sympathizing friends and relatives was a testimonial which spoke eloquently in the memory of a good man. May his soul rest in peace. Those who attended the obsequies from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Jno. E. Murrey, Chas. Murrey, Mr. and Mrs. McLaughlin, Andy Harrington, Mr. and Mrs. Connors, Mr. and Mrs. William Murrey, Miss Sarah Fox, all of Cedar Rapids; Mrs. J. B. Murrey and daughter Anna, LeMars, Iowa; John Murrey, Kingsley, Iowa; John Harrington, Mayville, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Flaherty and daughter Margaret, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cahill, Mrs. John Welden, Mike Cahill, all of Fairfax, Iowa.

*One obituary states 2 sons. Second obituary states four sons and 2 daughters.
