Verne Whitfield Kirkpatrick
(22 Nov 1892 - 27 Feb 1904)
Obituary: Vern Whitfield Kirkpatrick was born in Dawson County, Nebraska, Nov. 22, 1892 and departed this life Feb. 27, 1904. He was taken sick about the middle of last November. Since that time he had gradually wasted away. In the earlier stages of his illness, he was hopeful and during the entire time was patient, uncomplaining and cheerful. During the latter part of his illness he suffered everything that mortal should endure. He was converted and united with the M. E. Church at Walnut Grove, Nov. 8, 1903, and lived a devoted Christian life until God called him to his reward. Throughout his sickness his soul had a firm hold on God. Although a mere child of eleven years of age, he had no fear of death, but spoke of it as “going to Heaven” and asked each of his friends and loved ones to meet him there, also sent the same word to a number of friends and relatives who were not present. Surrounded by his loved ones he fell asleep in Jesus Saturday night about twelve o’clock. He was a loving son and brother and a friend to all who knew him. The family has the sympathy of a wide circle of friends. After the reading of a chapter and prayer at the home, funeral services were conducted at the Walnut Grove Church by the pastor A. M. Carpenter, Monday afternoon at 2:30. The remains were then laid to rest in the Walnut Grove cemetery. May the comfort of the faith in which he died, give courage to those made lonely by his disease.
“Hope on dear friends,
Let us not repine,
The morn will come,
The sun will shine,
The Lord knows best,
What our hearts can bear,
He’ll make all right,
When we meet up There.”
CARD OF THANKS.
We desire to express our sincere thanks to all those who so kindly assisted us during the illness of our loved one, also all who assisted in the funeral and burial service.
