The Boston Globe, Boston, Massachusetts, April 13, 1996: Philip A. Segal, a retired food industry executive, died Thursday in his home in Marblehead. He was 94. Mr. Segal was born in East Boston and graduated from Dartmouth College. He began his career in the food industry with Rival Food and was president of the Commonwealth Grocery Co. from 1943 to 1954 before becoming an executive with Purity Supreme until his retirement in 1981. He was an avid tennis player and was a member of the Newton Squash and Tennis Club. He leaves his wife, Myrtle (Tierney); two sons, Philip A. Jr. of Cranston, R.I., and John N. of Needham; two stepsons, Philip Tierney of Maclean, Va., and Albert G. Tierney of Norwell; two sisters, Harriet Cohn of Westwood and Anna Castleman of Cambridge; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow in Levine Chapel in Brookline. Burial will be in Temple Israel Cemetery in Wakefield.
