Virda Venus Campbell

(May 1879 - 19 Apr 1941)

OBITUARY

Miss Virda Campbell passed away on Saturday, April 19th, following a long illness at the age of 61 years, 11 months and 5 days.
Virda Venus Campbell was born in Iowa on May 14, 1879, and passed away at Gothenburg on April 19, 1941. She came to Nebraska in 1880 with her parents, living her life in this community.
The following personal tribute was written by Rev. Miller:
Miss Virda Campbell was a fine Christian character. Her faith in the Christian religion was strong and vital in her life. She loved the church and delighted in Christian service. She was a faithful member of the Evangelical church for many years, and later of the Presbyterian church here in Gothenburg.
While I was pastor in Cozad, in the years 1916-1917, she was a member of the New Hope Evangelical church and attended quite regularly the afternoon services.
She loved to sing, in fact, singing was one of her characteristics. She enjoyed church music to the full. She was able to put her soul into the old time church hymns. She has now joined the Choir in Heaven.
Her influence was good, and for Christ and the church. She will continue to live in the hearts and lives of her immediate family, and her neighbors and all who knew her well. She was a lover of the Bible, as is evidenced by the markings in her Bible. May the Lord bless this ministry of influence started by her earthly life. Though gone from us in person she still lives for good.
She leaves to mourn her going, five brothers: Sidney E. Campbell of Gothenburg, Chas. C. and William Roy of North Platte, Frank W. of Aztec, New Mexico, and Oral B. of Oakridge, Oregon, two sisters: Mrs. Henry C. Brestel of Gothenburg and Mrs. Retha Noice of Phoenix, Arizona; and twenty-two nephews and nieces.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the First Presbyterian church, conducted by Rev. B. Hiller, assisted by the church pastor, Rev. James W. Harris. Pallbearers were Howard, Earl, Carl Clarence, Donald and Wayne Campbell. Interment was at the Grandview Cemetery.
