From Find-A-Grave.com: Horace E. Polglaze, age 82, a resident of Wheaton, died Wednesday, November 25, at home. He was born July 4, 1927 in Beloit, WI. Horace loved his country and served in the US Navy during WWII. He cherished his family, especially his grandchildren who knew him as "Bumpa." He was our "Yankee Doodle Dandy." After retiring as an Executive for Mutual Trust Life Insurance Co., he volunteered for Central DuPage Hospital and also worked as a ranger at Klein Creek Golf Course. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #2258, American Legion Post #76, the SALT Council, and a longtime DuPage Election Judge. He enjoyed his work, trains, football and golf, "although I was never very good at it." He was a voracious reader and loved music, especially Big Band and Jazz. He was a recent lover of rock music as played by his grandson David and his band. He is survived by his three children, Cathy Polglaze of Carol Stream, Luanne (Jordan) Lawrence of Wheaton, and Dwight (Julie) Polglaze of Shutesbury, MA; six grandchildren, Sarah and David Lawrence, and Maggie, Sophia, Dolan, and Jack Polglaze; many nieces and nephews; and an abundance of loyal friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Gretchen; his parents, Ernest and Marie Polglaze; his brother, Ernest; and his sister, Darlene Kelton. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 1, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the Pelican Harbor Seabird Station, 1275 NE 79th Street Causeway, Miami, FL 33138; or to the Hospice of Northeastern Illinois, 410 S. Hager, Barrington, IL 60010.
