The Miami Herald, Miami, Florida, December 25, 2003: Kelton, Darlene Marie, 83, passed gently away at Aventura Hospital in Miami, FL. on December 23, surrounded by her loving family. Darlene was employed for many years at Channel 7 in Miami. In 1980, after their youngest child left home, Darlene and Harry moved to a houseboat at Pelican Harbor Marina in Miami where they immediately founded Pelican Harbor Seabird Station to rescue, rehabilitate and release injured pelicans and other seabirds. Darlene spent the last 23 years working alongside Harry, surrounded by her beloved birds. Darlene's kindness and caring touched many lives and her legacy will continue through the work of Pelican Harbor Seabird Station. She is survived by her husband Harry Kelton; by her daughter Kaye Taylor and Kaye's husband Robin of Juneau, Alaska; by her son John Kelton of Raleigh, NC, his wife Jenny and grandsons Sam and James; by her son Robert Kelton of Miramar, his wife Norris and their daughter Lauren Darlene Kelton; and by her other brother, Horace Polglaze, who lives in Wheaton, IL with his family. Darlene was preceded in death by her brother Ernie Polglaze who lived with his family in Beloit, WI; and also preceded by her son David Buckwalter who lived in Boston. David's wife Ellen Ruland Buckwalter and her children, all living in the Boston area, are Sarah Buckwalter, David Bradbury Buckwalter, and Susan Buckwalter. Funeral services will be held Thursday (today) 6:30 P.M. at the Cofer-Kolski-Combs Funeral Home, 10931 NE 6 Ave., Miami, FL.
