Daily American Republic, Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Saturday, August 14, 1976: Sherman Allen, 68 year old custodian at Poplar Bluff Senior High School for the past 15 years, died at 6 this morning in the Poplar Bluff Hospital. he had been ill two years. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Third Baptist Church where he was a member and director of the Sunday School class. The Revs. Ray Epps and Lyle Alford will officiate with burial in the City Cemetery. Visitation begins after 1 p.m. Sunday at Cotrell Funeral Home. Mr. Allen lived at 913 Peach St. Prior to taking a job with the high school, he had worked for Missouri Pacific for 15 years. A Butler County resident the past 33 years, Mr. Allen was born July 1, 1908, in Wayne County. He was married to the former Lola Leonard April 5, 1947. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Maxine Doty, Poplar Bluff; a son, Elvis Reed, Poplar Bluff; a brother, Elmo Allen, Hiram; and five grandchildren.
