Juanita Chapman Jones

Obituary from the Times-Standard, Monday, October 11, 1982. Hosier, Juanita C., died Oct. 10, 1982 at age 85. A native of Stent, she came to Humboldt County in 1910 residing in the Fortuna area where she remained until her death. She was a 1915 graduate of Fortuna Union High School, continuing her education at Gallagher- Marsh Business School in San Francisco. She had worked for the California State Division of Forestry for 22 years, retiring in 1962. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Fortuna and was a 50 year member of the Fruitvale Chapter No. 237 O.E.S. in Oakland. An active member of Walker Bailey Post No. 205 American Legion Auxiliary, she had been in charge of dispersing and maintaining the hospital equipment for the American Legion for over 20 years. She was also a member of B.P.W., the Fortuna Monday Club, the Humboldt Historical Society, the Chapel of the Four Chaplains, and the California Public Employees Association. She was awarded life honorary membership of the Fortuna PTA and was named the Humboldt County Woman of the Year several years ago.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth E. Hosier, Jr. of Orinda; her sister, Edna Evelyn Rodenberger of Oakland; her grandchildren, Kenneth E. Hosier III of Pittsburgh and Frederick Guy Hosier of Pleasant Hill; one great granddaughter and numerous other relatives. Mrs. Hosier was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth E. Hosier who died in 1973; and by her brother John Leslie Jones, a former Eureka resident who died in 1952. Friends are invited to attend services at Goble's Chapel, Fortuna, at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Jerry Foster and Officer of Walker Bailey Post No. 205 American Legion officiating. Private internment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Eureka. Casketbearers will include Ray Otto, Ed Hauer, Ed Tremaine, Clay Tipple and Romey Decket. Friends are invited to call for visitation at Goble's Chapel, Fortuna from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight and from 9 a.m. Tuesday.
