Stearns, 84, long time resident of the Plover area, died Sunday afternoon at the Palo Alto Memorial Hospital in Emmetsburg. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the United Methodist Church in Plover with the Rev. Maurice Frevert officiating.
Mrs. John Pollock was the organist for the service and Delbert Hubbell the vocal soloist. Mrs. and Mrs. Clarence Eppelsheimer and Mr. and Mrs. James Trimble were in charge of the floral arrangements. Casket bearers were P. L. Strong, George Pirie, Fay Pirie, Martin Peterson, Woodrow Otto and Roy Simonson. Burial was in Clinton-Garfield Cemetery, Rolfe.
Frank Bennett Stearns, son of Charles E. and Maria Elizabeth Stearns was born March 12, 1886 at Grand Haven, Mich. He was the youngest of eight children. He lived in Michigan until 1904 when he came to Iowa. For two years he attended the Waterloo Business College. On May 22, 1912, he was untied in marriage to May Fern Hosier at Waterloo. to this union were born 14 children, 10 girls and 4 boys.
His death occurred October 18, 1970, at the hospital in Emmetsburg. Surviving are the widow, May; 12 children, Mrs. Clyde (Eunice Maulsby, Plover; Mrs. Herbert (Florence) Dickinson, Coon Rapids, Minn.; Clarence, Bradgate, Paul, Goldfield; Mrs. Clarence (June) Hotovec, Grand Junction, Colo.; Mrs. Lewismilo (Betty) Sease, Des Moines, Frank Jr., Gilmore City; Mrs. Fred (Dorcas) Schossow, Pocahontas; Mrs. George (Jacqueline) Macek, Fort Dodge; 57 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one sister Mrs. May Berg, Grand Haven, Mich. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and by a son, Alan in March 1969.
