Hugh Bicknell

The Pantagraph, Bloomington, Illinois, Saturday, April 6, 1991, Final Edition, Page A11: Hugh Bicknell, 77, of 320 W. Tazewell St., Tremont, formerly of Bloomington, died at 2:15 p.m. yesterday (April 5, 1991) at his home. He was retired from the Bloomington Public Works Department. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Davis Mortuary, Tremont, the Rev. Jay Arnold officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and for one hour before the service Monday at the mortuary. He was born May 25, 1913, in Arthur, a son of William Kelly and Minnie Ethel Hayes Bicknell II. He married Elizabeth Betty Wittmus. She died Aug. 24, 1974. He married Lois Edna Burleson on March 18, 1990, in Tremont. She survives. Also surviving are four sons, Don Bicknell, Minooka; Gerald Bicknell, Raytown, Mo.; William Bicknell, Onyx, Calif.; and Douglas, address unavailable; two daughters, Beverly Vandervort, Leland, and Marilyn Long, Oswego; two stepsons, David and Don Burleson, Peoria; two stepdaughters, Linda Mead, Delavan, and Margaret Burleson, Tremont; a brother and sister; 30 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, a sister and two grandchildren. Mr. Bicknell attended Calvary Baptist Church in Tremont. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Bloomington Veterans of Foreign Wars post and the Delavan American Legion post. Memorials may be made to the Tremont Rescue Squad or to the Hospice Foundation, in care of Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.
