Virginia "Dale" Kirkpatrick

Virginia Dale Kirkpatrick was born 27 September 1914 in Forrest City, St. Francis County, Arkansas, and attended the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Virginia married on 9 April 1935 in the Presbyterian Church at Marianna, Lee County, Arkansas to George Brown Pilkington, born 23 June 1910 at Marianna, Lee County, Arkansas, the son of George Henry and Myrtie May (Brown) Pilkington. Myrtie May was the daughter of James Penn and Myra Tait (Banks) Brown. Myra Tait was the daughter of Charles Hardy and Murtice (Freeman) Banks. The Banks line is also traced back to Alfred the Great.
George graduated June 1933 from the Georgia Institute of Technology at Atlanta, Georgia with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering and a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army Reserve. During World War II, George was commissioned as an Ensign and promoted to Lieutenant, J.G. in the US Navy Sea-Bees, studied Military Government at the University of Virginia and the Japanese language at Leland-Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. George was stationed in Korea and was made Military Mayor of Chinju, Korea. In 1948 George opened a private consulting engineering business in his own name in Memphis, Tennessee, registered in Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi.
There were two (2) children born of the marriage.

The Commercial Appeal, Memphis, Tennessee, Monday, September 9, 1991: MARIANNA - Mrs. Virginia Dale Kirkpatrick Pilkington, 76, of Heber Springs, formerly of Memphis and Marianna, died Saturday at Central Arkansas Hospital in Searcy. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cleburne County Memorial Gardens in Heber Springs. Olmstead Funeral Home in Heber Springs has charge. She was a member of First Church of Christ Scientists of Boston. Mrs. Pilkington, the widow of George Brown Pilkington, leaves two sons, George B. Pilkington II of Atlanta and Scott K. Pilkington of Dunlap, Tenn.; a brother, Otto Kirkpatrick of Forrest City, and four grandchildren.
