Burton M. Ristine, 83, of Gothenburg, died Oct. 9, 2009, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg. Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 2-8 p.m. at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, with family present from 5-7 p.m. Services will be on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 10:30 a.m. at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg with Pastor Matthew Groenke and Lonna Grabenstein officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Gothenburg Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the to the American Lutheran Kitchen Fund, 1512 Ave. G, Gothenburg, NE 69138. Burton M Ristine, 83, of Gothenburg died Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at Hilltop Estates of Gothenburg. Services were held Oct. 14 at the American Lutheran Church of Gothenburg with the Rev. Matthew Groneke and Lonna Grabenstein, PMA, officiating. Burial will take place at the Gothenburg Cemetery with military rights. Ristine was born Dec. 3, 1925, to Cecil and Elsie (McCance) Ristine on a farm northeast of Gothenburg. He graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1944. On Nov. 20, 1948, he married Marilyn Larsen at Gothenburg. To this union, three children were born. Following his first marriage, on Dec. 26, 1994, he married Lona Abelbeck Nelson at North Platte. Ristine served the United States from 1944 to 1946. While serving his country, he received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Army of Occupation Medal. He worked as a farmer and rancher, and was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Banner United Methodist Church and American Lutheran Church. Ristine served on the Gothenburg Airport Authority Board, the Farmland Service Cooperative board and the District 62 School Board. He farmed from 1946 to 1992, flew airplanes, enjoyed antique cars, collecting cars, Halloween and pulling pranks, said family members. He also enjoyed jet skiing and boating at the cabin at Jeffery Lake, learning about history, watching Husker football, his cattle, telling stories and lighting off fireworks. Ristine was preceded in death by: his parents, Cecil and Elsie Ristine; his first wife, Marilyn Larsen Ristine; brothers—Paul and Thaine Ristine; a cousin, Margie Roberts. Survivors include: his wife, Lona; sons—Ross (Kressy) Ristine and Jim Ristine, all of Gothenburg; a daughter, Ann (Bruce) Hausmann of Highlands Ranch, CO; step-son, David (Pam) Nelson of Liberty, MO; step-daughters —Pamala (Mike) Derreberry of Newport News, VA, and Lori (Addam) Maxwell of Elkhorn; brother-in-law, Mike (Marian) Larson of Gothenburg; sister-in-law, Doris (Ralph) Craig of Gothenburg; five grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and three step-great-grand children.
