On the 1900 U. S. Census of Julian Township, Dubuque Co., Iowa, John Rumple appears with his wife Mary J. and children William, May, and Charles. The years married on John looks like 17, hers 11. Mary states she is the mother of 3 children all of which are living. William and Mary state mother born in Wisconsin, Charles states Ohio. The children's month and years of birth as well as age are very hard to read. John is a farmer.

On the 1910 U. S. Census of Julien Township, Dubuque City, Dubuque Co., Iowa, John Rumple appears with his wife Mary J. They have been married 13 years. They were both married before as this is their second marriage. Mary states she is the mother of zero, with zero surviving. Based on their years married and the ages of the children on 1900 census, the children in 1900 belonged to John Rumple and his first wife. In 1910 they had Mary's nephews Grant J. and Vincent C. Elliott living with them. John states he has his own income.

On the 1920 U. S. Census of Dubuque, Dubuque Co., Iowa, John is a widower living alone. His age is 64 and he is working as a laborer in a railroad shop.

Dubuque Telegraph Herald, Dubuque, Iowa, Friday, September 26, 1941, Page 16, Col 7: John Rumple, a former resident of Dubuque, died at his home in Arlington, S. D. Wednesday, according to word received here Friday. The body will arrive in Dubuque Saturday afternoon and will be taken to the Egelhof Home for Funerals, where funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, with the Rev. J. A. Young, pastor of the Grandview Avenue Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Cottage Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Rumple was born on Nov. 28, 1855, and was nearing 86 years of age at the time of his death. He is survived by two sons, Charles Rumple, St. Paul, Minn., and William Rumple, Arlington, and by one brother, William Rumple, Sherrill's Mound, Ia.
