Armilda Johnston
(26 Oct 1871 - 21 Jun 1930)
Lexington Leader, Lexington, Kentucky, Tuesday, June 24, 1930, Page 6: Mrs. David N. Welch was injured fatally and her son, Clay, received minor injuries Monday afternoon when the automobile in which they were riding went off the road and overturned on the Big Hill road, four miles beyond Big Hill. Mrs. Welch was brought to the Berea hospital here, where she died at 6 o'clock. Her son, who was driving the sedan, is at the home of an aunt, Mrs. Oscar Rader, sister of his mother, where he is suffering from cuts and bruises. Mrs. Welch, still conscious and apparently not seriously injured, and her son were removed from the automobile and brought here by Tom Jackson, Berea. She was conscious all the way to Berea. Death resulted from internal injuries, it was said.
They were returning from Burning Springs, Jackson county, where they had taken Mrs. Welch's husband, who was going on a trip on horseback through the mountains. The accident was caused by a blowout, which caused the motor [vehicle] to swerve to the right and strike a culvert. The car tumbled down a 10-foot embankment, pinning the occupants beneath the wreckage.
Besides her son, she is survived by her husband, a former postmaster of Berea, and Mrs. Eli Cornelison, Richmond; a step-son, Robert Welch, Berea, and three other sons, Ralph Welch, Berea; Ernest Welch, Hamilton, O., and Sam Welch, Louisville.

London---Mrs. Almira [Armilda] Johnson Welch, wife of Nath Welch, well known traveling salesman of Berea, was killed in an automobile accident at Tyner, Jackson county, when the car in which she was riding left the road and turned over. Mrs. Welch had been ill with heart trouble and it is understood that the shock more than other injuries caused her death.
